I first met Mr. Tsuruta, the designer of eofm, at an exhibition in Tokyo. He was working on assembling accessories, and his designs had an originality that tickled men's hearts. I was intrigued by the concept behind it, and as I talked to him, I was fascinated by the background behind the creation of the brandeofm.

The brand name eofm stands for "Experiment of Folk Methods. It means "experimentation of folk methods," and the concept is to incorporate the beauty of traditional techniques and silhouettes from around the world into contemporary fashion. Although it may seem counterintuitive, the origin of his ideas was surprisingly based on his exploration of the occult and history.

He has always been strongly attracted to mystical objects such as the Seven Wonders of the World, moai statues, and pyramids. The turning point in his journey was a 3,000-year-old bottom discovered in a cave in Mongolia. He was struck by the fact that the shape of the bottoms was almost the same as today. Further research convinced him of the functional beauty of ethnic costumes, as he learned that modern garments, such as a 5,000-year-old Egyptian tunic and an Inuit tribe's parka (what we now call a parka), had remained unchanged in form over the years.

He says that modern fashion has developed from a diverse set of intertwined factors. He says that it is important not only to carry on the silhouettes and techniques of ethnic costumes, but also to develop them in a way that is adaptable to the modern market. It is not just about passing on traditions, but about adding new interpretations and reaching a wider audience.

The Falt bangle, one of eofm's signature pieces, was inspired by the signet ring. The minimalist design, stripped down to the bare essentials, seems to redefine the concept of modern ornamentation. In its simplicity, the essence of a long history of design is condensed.

When one hears the words "ethnic jewelry," many people may think of Indian jewelry or Tuareg jewelry. However, he reinterprets such cultural backgrounds from his own unique perspective to create designs that blend naturally with contemporary fashion.

Prospects for the Future

When asked about his vision for the future, he said, "My ultimate goal is to create a collection that will be a part of the Japanese fashion scene.

My ultimate goal is to reinterpret Japanese traditions and make products in local factories. My goal is to establish a brand that adapts Japanese traditions to the modern world, objectively rethinking kimonos and making them fit into modern lifestyles."

Rather than preserving tradition as it is, we are fusing it with contemporary styles, while bringing a new interpretation to the future. His perspective, which seeks new expressions while responding to these changing times, goes beyond mere fashion design and involves the reconstruction of culture.

Eofm's journey may have just begun, and in 1,000 or even 10,000 years from now, there may be people who wear the clothes he has created. Imagining such a future, we can look forward to his future development even more.

His inquisitiveness to "know what is unknown" and his passion to "create new value. All of these will bring new possibilities to the fashion of the future.
